Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.

Day 1: Arrival in Chennai and transfer to Pondicherry
Day 2: Pondicherry Full Day Sightseeing - City
Day 3: Day trip to Mahabalipuram
- After breakfast proceed to Mahabalipuram( 2hr/100 km) visit Mandapams/Caves-There are about 14 rock -cut caves or Mandapams with Mythological scenes about half a km from Mahabalipuram.. A few of them are a must see and spend more time seeing them e.g Krishna, Mahishasuramardini & Varaha Pancha Rathas-Pancha Rathas (Five Chariots) - five monolithic pyramidal structures named after the Pandavas (Arjuna, Bhima, Yudhishtra, Nakula and Sahadeva) and Draupadi. - Mahabalipuram, is so named as it overlooks the Bay of Bengal. This was built by the Pallavas in the 8th Century AD and has Pyramidal structure of 60 ft height built on 50ft square platform.
- Sculpture Museum-This Museum houses around 3000 plus Sculpturess. It is famous for its elaborate collection of sculptures and images of god and goddesses of Hindu mythology. It also has Buddhist Sculptures.
- Ganesha Ratha-This Temple, close to Arjuna's Penance, is a Chariot that is carved out of a stone and the style of architecture is Dravidian.
- Return back to Pondicherry and overnight stay.
Day 4: Day Excursion to Pichavaram Backwaters
- Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and embark on a day tour of Pichavaram Mangrove, located along the picturesque shores of the Bay of Bengal. Just a short 30-minute drive from the sacred temple town of Chidambaram, lies the coastal village of Pichavaram. Here, you'll discover the world's second-largest mangrove forest, after the Sundarbans
- Nestled between the Vellar River and Coleroon River, the enchanting backwaters of Pichavaram Mangrove are teeming with diverse birdlife and wildlife. Recognized as a prominent eco-tourism destination, the backwaters of Pichavaram Mangrove are simply mesmerizing. The pristine backwaters form a labyrinth of canals, serene backwaters, and shimmering beaches, offering an ideal setting for romantic getaways, corporate retreats, family vacations, or adventurous expeditions.
- Cruising through the backwaters provides an enthralling experience as you navigate through the dense mangrove forests. Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation offers boating facilities to visitors, with row boats and motorboats available daily from 5 am to 6 pm. A two-hour motorboat ride or a four-hour rowboat trip allows you to explore both the jungle and the beach.
- While motorboats may not access narrower canals, rowboats offer the flexibility to navigate every nook and cranny. Boatmen may request additional fees for venturing into secluded canals. You can also try your hand at rowing during the rowboat excursion.
- After the memorable exploration, return to Pondicherry and unwind with an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5: Departure from Pondicherry to Chennai with Pondicherry Sightseeing
- After breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed for half day Pondicherry sightseeing and visit Pondicherry museum -The Pondicherry Museum -The museum has a collection of rare bronzes and stone sculptures from the Pallava and Chola dynasties and artefacts excavated from Arikamedu
- Jawahar toy museum - This museum has some of the rare decorated dolls and toys that belong to different regions and culture of India. These dolls and toys have been collected from several states in the country and are seen wearing the traditional dresses of that particular region.
- Old Light house - It is one of the best locations for a bird's-eye view of the serene Pondicherry city. It is located at a within Puducherry city limits, right next to the famed Gandhi statue. It was built so that it will help the mariners to land at night.
- Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple- The ancient temple was constructed three centuries ago and still stands in all its magnificent glory.In Tamil 'Manal' means sand and 'Kulam' means pond near the sea, earlier which was full of sand around pond. So the people called the god as Manal Kulathu Vinayagar which translates as 'God near the pond of sand'.
- Later proceed to chennai and check in to the hotel and overnight stay at Chennai hotel.
